From
time to time throughout the year, to add a little spice to life, First
United Methodist plans special events, not only for our own church
family but also for the community at large. These events run the gamut
from fun for the young and the young at heart to more serious,
thoughtful projects.
Jewish Seder Meal ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
Every few years, on Maundy Thursday night, the entire community is
invited to participate in an authentic Jewish Seder. Along with the
formal Seder Meal, an authentic Jewish Passover meal is served.
Tenebrae
::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
On Good Friday
evening a worship service based on the Seven Last Words of Christ from
the Cross is held in the Sanctuary. This is a service featuring
choral music and scripture readings, ending in darkness.
(Tenebrae means shadows).
Variety
Show ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
Every so often,
the church sponsors a Variety Show, featuring members and
friends. Music, drama, comedy, dance, etc. are the order of the
night. A delicious dinner is prepared by the church hostess and a
fun evening is enjoyed by all.
6
Ways 2 Praise Fine Arts Day Camp :::::::::::::
For four days during the month of July, children from a 40 mile radius
come to learn how to praise the Lord in different ways. Classes for
2010 will include Musical Movement and Signing, Drama, Visual arts,
Choreographed Fitness, and other skills. The Camp is open to all rising
1st –12th grade students. Lunch and a camp tee shirt are included in
the cost of $35.00. Scholarships are available.
Live
Nativity Scene :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
As a gift to the community, the church presents a Live Nativity Scene
before Christmas each year. Church members and live animals stand in
the tableau in front of the church, depicting the first Christmas night.
Breakfast With Santa :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
Breakfast With Santa is a fund raiser for the United Methodist
Children’s Home. On the first Saturday in December Santa
Claus arrives at the Zachry center. Area children come
visit and have their picture taken with him and also enjoy Nativity
sticker art. Cost includes a full breakfast prepared by the men of
the church.
